To keep your smile healthy, we offer necessary steps to help eliminate infection and bad habits that can damage your teeth. We offer:
Treatments for Gum Disease
Left untreated, gingivitis can advance into periodontitis and destroy gum and bone attachment around the teeth. If the pockets under your gum tissue are no deeper than 5mm deep, we will perform root planing to create a clean environment that facilitates healing. More advanced disease cases may need to be referred to a periodontal specialist.
In most situations, we recommend a cleaning every three months to monitor your recovery. Should certain teeth have advanced disease and are beyond saving, it may be necessary to remove them so that infection does not continue to spread. If extraction is needed, we advise replacing your missing tooth with something such as a partial denture, dental implant or bridge.
Night Splints
Do you suffer from jaw pain or worn teeth caused by clenching and grinding? Approximately 70% of our patients find relief from wearing a custom bite splint. However, some people respond positively by making a conscious effort not to clench or grind their teeth during the day.
Another alternative that we often use in addition to splints is TENS therapy. Using gentle electric currents, our TENS machine relaxes the muscles and encourages them to release lactic acid that has built up due to tension, providing relief.
Dental Extractions
Severely infected and decayed teeth or impacted wisdom teeth may need to be extracted. Doing so ensures that other teeth remain healthy.
If your extraction is a bit more advanced, we may utilise ConeBeam CT imaging to pinpoint the exact anatomy surrounding the tooth before removing it. This image is especially useful for wisdom teeth extractions and deciding whether or not you need to be referred to an oral surgeon.
